Contemporary Coastal House With A Rooftop Lap Pool

A modern beach house with Rooftop Lap Pool, Nestles was designed by Hughes Umbanhowar Architects. The house is designed in modern style and is both a quaint coastal cottage and a chic isle villa. This 3,600 square feet beach house is located in the gap between the dock and the road along a narrow site on the coast north of Jupiter Island, Florida. The house is divided into three separated areas : bedroom, playroom, and space for contemplation. Each space has a wide view to the beach and surrounding scenery with expansive sunlight coming through the large windows. The dynamic interplay of light and shadow invigorates the space below. The textured face of stucco or ‘sand’ of the north-facing sleeping area underscores the ancient wisdom of worn stone, an apt sensibility for an intimate space infused soft morning light and its concomitant tranquility. The interior is bright white, which goes extremely well with the slightly blue tinted windows and beach furniture. The most exclusive part of the house is undoubtedly the rooftop sun deck and swimming pool. When viewed from the ground, none of this visible and appears as only a flat roof. The wide pool is perfect for relaxing in and enjoy views of the coastline and horizon, and chilling out on the patio area with the modern sun loungers. Situated on the beach, the house affords direct access to the water, reinforcing the immediacy of the relationship to site and the spontaneity of island living. This is the ultimate contemporary coastal home with an elegant interior. [via]

SheOak: Casual Black Beach House by Base Architecture

Base Architecture has a cool design that they can be proud of, and it’s called SheOak House. This house is located in Kingscliff, New South Wales, Australia designed in informal, casual, comfortable and welcoming style. Houses with large 350 square meters was built in a mix of steel, timber and concrete, making this house looks like a giant black box. The double height entry with grass underfoot and natural landscape consists of a semi indoor/outdoor space constructed of clear weatherboards that is able to be hosed out through the decking boards to discard unwanted sand and salt. The area is designed for the wetsuit to be abandoned into the concealed laundry and the surfboards to be ‘racked’. The ground level has a quite simple open plan and opened up to a courtyard and a pool. Upstairs consists of simple bedroom and bathroom facilities that interact with the ground level and entry via a series of voids and openings. This house is resistant to such weather conditions as wind, salt and sun. Overall this house calls out openness and a casual sensation that typifies what a beach house should be. [via]

Airy Beach House Renovation by Ras-a

This is a house with a minimalist design named P-House. Located in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles and designed by Ras-a. It’s a renovation of a small post war house into a modern house. Most of this house is recycled from the original house because of limited budget and attention to the environment. Some of interior walls removed or relocated so the living room, kitchen, and dining area to be one space. To extend the space outside to a backyard and swimming pool, mounted a fourteen foot wide sliding glass door pockets. The outdoor living area becomes the focal point of the new design, and making the modest size of the interior feel more spacious. To prevent a busy street scene used clerestory windows on the south elevation, while still carrying the wind and framing the tops of nearby palm trees. North elevation, which faces the backyard and pool, has floor to ceiling windows providing the interior with an abundance of diffused natural light. Light colored cement board siding, high solar reflective roofing, and a well insulated building envelope add the passive solar design. A modern clean burning stove reduces heating loads during the colder months. Bedroom, bathroom, and one car garage is a room that maintain their original location. [via]
