A modern beach house with Rooftop Lap Pool, Nestles was designed by Hughes Umbanhowar Architects. The house is designed in modern style and is both a quaint coastal cottage and a chic isle villa. This 3,600 square feet beach house is located in the gap between the dock and the road along a narrow site on the coast north of Jupiter Island, Florida. The house is divided into three separated areas : bedroom, playroom, and space for contemplation. Each space has a wide view to the beach and surrounding scenery with expansive sunlight coming through the large windows. The dynamic interplay of light and shadow invigorates the space below. The textured face of stucco or ‘sand’ of the north-facing sleeping area underscores the ancient wisdom of worn stone, an apt sensibility for an intimate space infused soft morning light and its concomitant tranquility. The interior is bright white, which goes extremely well with the slightly blue tinted windows and beach furniture. The most exclusive part of the house is undoubtedly the rooftop sun deck and swimming pool. When viewed from the ground, none of this visible and appears as only a flat roof. The wide pool is perfect for relaxing in and enjoy views of the coastline and horizon, and chilling out on the patio area with the modern sun loungers. Situated on the beach, the house affords direct access to the water, reinforcing the immediacy of the relationship to site and the spontaneity of island living.
